Connaught-Vepr MRPS

The Connaught-Vepr MRPS is a digistructed handgun. It is based on an impervium frame with most sensitive parts covered with a white material (a material grown in a lab specifically for the purpose of maximum heat absorption). Most electronics are powered by a large crystal located in the grip (accessible through removing the rear section). The weapon features an electromagnetic rail firing system. The entire system is rechargeable and holds enough energy to discharge the rail system or taser system over 300 times.

The weapon's main function is to fire a small finned tungsten flechette-like projectile, which when fired is covered in a layer of searing hot plasma. When used, the rails spread apart and quickly come together at the moment of firing only to spread apart again immediately. This is necessary as the weapon is susceptible to overheating very fast. Even with extensive liquid nitrogen based cooling system and the air cooled areas, the weapon can only fire about 15 shots in rapid succession before experiencing a burnout. During a burnout, vents on the sides of the upper rail flap open and discharge some of the accumulated hot plasma forwards of the weapon user, and at the same time burn off some of it - flames will start coming out of the side vents. This lasts for at least 2 seconds, which is the minimum amount of time required for the weapon to cool to an operational status, to 5 seconds, for a thorough cooling. After a burnout is complete, nitrogen will flow out of various openings in the weapon as the insulated magazine discharges a half of its stored liquid nitrogen.

The magazine of this handgun can be found under the white covering of the upper rail section. During a reload, the white covering slides forward and the magazine will pop out on it's own. The insulated magazine contains a set of 30 tungsten flechettes, a small amount of plasma and enough liquid nitrogen for two burnouts. It is relatively small.

The alternative function of this weapon is a stun-gun-esque system. In this mode, the weapons rails turn outwards away from the user, completely exposing the rails to the front. Pulling the trigger during this mode will run a powerful current through the electromagnetic rails. Upon contact with flesh or a conductor to flesh, the weapon is capable of dealing a nonlethal yet incapacitating jolt.

The weapon will not fire in an unknown users hand. MRPS takes a quick biometric scan of the user when grabbed - due to the heavy augmentation in neanthrops, the only way to determine for sure is a DNA check. The weapons computer will run a quick check for specific and unique DNA markers and match it with a user profile, enabling the use of the weapon. The entire process takes only about 2 seconds. The same computer is used to distribute power, monitor temperatures and control burnouts in the weapon. A separate computer is responsible for optics and user-weapon interfacing.
The optic that comes with the weapon is a holographic projector, which projects a reticule in front of the users eye. Alternatively, if the weapon manages to interface with the users eye or roundeye augmentations, it will project a reticule there. In a way, the gun will feel as an extension of the body to the user - a strange but empowering sensation.

In transport mode, the weapons two rails are shut completely and not exposed. When in storage mode, the entire weapon compacts with the fingerguard sliding in, the trigger sinking into the grip and the receiver folding over onto the grip area.
